About me

Hello there & welcome to my educational site!

I'm a Special Education Teacher and I love my job! I hold a Dual Masters Degree in General & Special Education in Early Childhood. I'm New York and Connecticut State Certified.

I use push-in classroom and in home services to support children in their natural environment to work towards their individual goals. I have worked with infants to fifth graders in a variety of settings, from public, private, religious schools/camps and in homes. I am passionate about my work with children and families and have seen HUGE improvements when 1:1 and small group support is provided. Of course my fun and enthusiastic attitude helps children feel comfortable while learning.

I have worked with children diagnosed with the following:
  • Apraxia
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder paired with Impulsivity
  • Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyper activity Disorder paired together
  • Cerebral Palsy

What is an IEP?
IEP stands for Individual Education Plan. These are written up as a guideline to support children who have been identified as needing extra support. This does not mean these children have a specific diagnosis although some many have been diagnosed.  All diagnoses are made through an evaluation by a child psychologist.
Every IEP has goals, and each time I work with a child I work towards those goals. Once reached, new goals are made. Changes to an IEP can be requested by a parent.

What is CPSE?
CPSE stands for The Committee of Preschool Special Education. The committee meets to address the needs of each child. A meeting is needed in order to alter any services on a child's IEP. Every child ages out of CPSE when they turn 5. In this case all agency provided SEIT services are terminated usually at the end of the preschool academic year or after the summer months.

What is CSE?
CSE stands for The Committee of Special Education, Kindergarten +. Which means that at the age of 5, prior to going into Kindergarten,  children will get 1/13 classifications on their IEP to ensure the best quality of education in the public school system. There will be a meeting to discuss a child's needs and this meeting should be attended by all team members {parents, seits, classroom teachers, related services providers}. It is not mandated by the state that all members of your child's team attend but this will ensure the best quality of support for your child as the educational years continue.
